Modern railway maintenance is increasingly data-driven. Our monitoring and inspection technology provides continuous insight into track condition through non-destructive testing, automated defect detection, and remote sensing, helping infrastructure managers move from reactive to predictive maintenance strategies.

Compact trackside sensor units for continuous void and settlement monitoring beneath the rail.
The RailSense VoidSense Unit is a ruggedised trackside sensing device designed for continuous monitoring of sub-ballast voids and track settlement at critical locations. Installed directly alongside the rail, each unit provides real-time data on void development, enabling maintenance teams to identify deteriorating track sections before they require emergency intervention. Suitable for high-load routes, bridge approaches, and areas with known drainage issues.

Continuous in-situ rail temperature, position and movement monitoring for critical rail temperature sites.
BuckleSense provides autonomous, continuous monitoring of rail temperature, position and movement, with sensor data processed and networked over a self-powered, low-power IoT hub. Developed with Network Rail (Trial Certificate No. PA05/07950), BuckleSense is deployed at Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) sites on both straight and curved track, covering CWR and jointed types. Magnetic attachment to the rail web means fast, tool-free installation entirely within the 4ft — no datum required, boots off ballast. Detects both slow thermal movement and explosive track buckle events. Location is provided via integrated GPS; secure data transmission uses MQTT over 4G to the RailSense cloud, with instant SMS or email alerts on alarm. Rechargeable battery, IP67-sealed, and fully portable for rapid redeployment. Also supports remote monitoring of dynamic gauge changes.

Real-time remote rail temperature monitoring to prevent buckling and keep the railway running safely.
TempSense is a remote rail temperature monitoring system designed for Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) management without trackside intervention. Measuring rail temperature from –20°C to +85°C, TempSense delivers scheduled readings and threshold warning alerts directly to network operators. Because rail temperatures typically run 20°C above ambient, timely data is essential — the UK network's stress-free design temperature of 27°C means early warnings directly enable intelligent train speed management and buckle prevention. By combining rail temperature with weather and solar radiation data, TempSense provides analytics to assist in network design and maintenance planning. Devices are built for zero maintenance and ultra-low power consumption, making them suitable for long-term deployment across the network.

IoT sensor and data-driven surface water management to reduce flooding and improve rail network safety.
TrackWater is a sensor and data-driven product designed to reduce flooding on the rail network and improve safety for passengers and operatives. Using IoT sensors and advanced data modelling, TrackWater proactively manages and predicts drainage asset maintenance — reducing flood events, delay minutes and maintenance costs. Developed through a consortium including Network Rail, Lancaster University and Connected Places Catapult, co-funded by the Department for Transport and Innovate UK, TrackWater applies technologies pioneered on the highways to the specific challenges of the rail environment and carries Network Rail approval. Its intuitive interface provides real-time alerts and predictive maintenance recommendations, enabling rail operators to take proactive measures before flooding occurs rather than responding reactively.

Unattended ride performance monitor for in-service vehicle and track condition monitoring.
The Macminder is a self-contained, unattended unit for monitoring vehicle ride performance and track conditions aboard in-service trains. Multiple units can be placed across different vehicles to record ride comfort simultaneously, enabling comparisons of multiple journeys. Measures vertical, longitudinal, and lateral acceleration conforming to ISO-2631, plus RMS, peak-to-peak exceedances, speed, and distance. The L-model accepts a tacho pulse for speed and distance; the G-model adds GPS. All data transfers to VisiRAIL software for analysis, annotation, and report generation. IP56-rated aluminium construction with internal non-volatile memory and battery backup. 24-hour recording time.

Dynamic measurement system for overhead line equipment height and stagger recording.
Captures overhead line contact wire height and stagger parameters during track recording runs. Provides continuous data for OLE maintenance planning, compliance verification, and infrastructure renewal programmes.
Non-destructive ultrasonic testing system for detecting internal rail defects.
Portable or trolley-mounted ultrasonic rail flaw detection equipment for identifying internal cracks, transverse defects, and weld flaws before they progress to failure. Used by specialist NDT teams on routine inspection programmes and following high-load events.

Integrated multi-parameter system for comprehensive track geometry data capture.
Complete track geometry measuring system recording gauge, cross-level, twist, alignment, and longitudinal level simultaneously. Data is stored digitally for output to standard geometry analysis software and maintenance management systems.
